Two thematic threads surfaced in this years meeting. The first started around the possibility of disentangling future arts practice from its present historical trajectory, and whether the sought after rupturing habit of a work should also mean its disappearance. The question of pursuing art within the bounds of an art education also surfaced, as well as whether one can legitimately depart from established artistic form, and still produce Art. Some bolder statements were made, implying that the field of art has already disappeared and that all that is necessary or possible within art, is a form of placeholder.
Secondly, came the question of communality implied by new possibilities of recognition. If an art work brings coherence to sections of the chaotic visual world, importing the possibility of viewing previously disparate elements as one, new alliances between those elements are implied. Here the discussion hinged on whether the institution of a new aesthetic field, constituted an Indication or a Demand.
