Sara Knowland's eclectic practice responds to historic residues woven through everyday lives. During the Studio residence she situated this approach within the building that was formally a factory producing yarn and assembling knitting machines.
Her process involves a plethora of ordinary materials from plasticine to Paper Maché, which she handles so as to keep their craft connotations while directing them to the grand subjects of architecture and social history.
Alongside her object-based work runs a painting practice that further reveals the dark slapstick of the oppositions of classic histories, and folk memories.
Sara is at present studying for an MA at the Royal Academy, London.
