RANA HASSANIEH

untitled 2007
Rana Hassaneih's sculptures reshape the space they are shown in. Prepared structures are fixed in a room, often suspended, that suggest the spectral trails of human pasts and futures. They are arrangements attachments and re-possessions of buildings rather than objects within them.
In Untitled (Treignac 2007) Rana Hassaneih has used items found within the former yarn factory, to construct the work. The limits of the composition are unclear. A cascade of abandoned material form meshes that tumble into the disorder of the hall.
One might miss the work but for the different rhythms of the pendant and arranged objects which catch the eye like a lure. The patterns knitted from these configurations suggest inhabitations of the space, a tenure at first, light and fanciful, but then more sinister like a spider's web, or a Hansel and Gretel house-as-bait.
