Alma Heikkila's work shifts in scale from whole room wall paintings, to un-perceived interventions with objects.
The large-scale works employ the techniques of paint application from interior decorating; marbling, paint effects, faux finishes and stencilled motifs. The smallest works may simply be a changed label on a washing up liquid bottle, or not noticed at all. Ordinariness is employed to undress art and unhinge our expectations of it, while an exotica of inexplicable symbols hint at alchemy's different universe. Heikkila, experiments with a privately potent art and the demands we place upon it in our public lives.
