The project, hosted by Triegnac Projet and BARRAGE, consists of three distinct elements. A week long residency workshop a two day conference and a publication.
Despite its distance from Paris, Limousin boasts a number of important art centres and
organisations that regularly exhibit work from acclaimed international artists bringing much needed attention to this sparsely populated area. What Treignac Projet has aimed to do until now is introduce not just artists, curators and writers to the area, but to site the production of knowledges out of the centre and into the locale. Importantly, these practitioners, coming from the UK, Scandinavia, Taiwan, Korea, America etc, engage in a local dialogue, creating cultural capital for the region and by bringing international artists to the area increases the awareness of Limousin as an important region for contemporary art. The outsourcing of traditionally urban functions such as knowledge production and transfer to rural areas will encourage new economies and sustainable growth beyond only touristic models.
