My practice situates itself somewhere on the boundary of painting. The recent work combines paintings with video performance and sculptural assemblages. It's a position from where I can actively examine the messy business of painting, and its place within the whole art organism.

I'm interested in the extraordinary importance that paint still enjoys as a creative medium. I find it bizarre. As the oldest of world languages, the act of painting is charged with thousands of years worth of expression, hundreds of years of the artist channelling the divine.

My interest in paint is more pragmatic than this. I'm interested in what it means to make paintings in the 21st century. I find something very human in the absurdity of making images in this way, particularly in the age of camera phones, youtube and photoshop.
